Castle Rushen
Located in Castletown, Castle Rushen is one of Europe's best-preserved medieval castles, complete with dungeons and clock tower. Inside, displays illustrate different periods of the island's history and include 17th-century-style furnishings and wall hangings.
Castletown is the island's ancient capital, and the castle was home to the last Norse King of Man (who died in 1266). The building is one of the Isle of Man's signature attractions and locals are justifiably proud of its centuries-old heritage.
Visitors who explore the castle today can imagine times past as they discover medieval tapestries and interpret the dramatic stories they depict, enter the Great Chamber and sit in the Lord's Chair and experience the not-always-pleasant sights and smells of the medieval kitchen.
