Swansea Market
One of the largest indoor market centres in the UK, Swansea Market follows a tradition dating back to the 12th century. Its current incarnation was built in 1961 and is an excellent source of local produce, from flowers and fresh seafood to jewellery, arts and Welsh souvenirs.
Almost anything can be found under the great glass roof. Local Gower produce is well represented - including fresh fish, vegetables, fruit and meat as well as Welsh cheeses. There are also inedible items such as mobile phones, computers and electrical goods and luxuries such as perfumes, lingerie, jewellery and hair accessories. Temporary traders setting up in the heart of the market provide seasonal variety and additional choice.
In early October, top chefs from throughout the country descend on the market for the annual Cockle Festival.
