Bristol Old Vic
Bristol's Old Vic has a beautiful, Georgian auditorium and is the oldest continuously working theatre in the country (since about 1766). Renowned for an excellent repertory programme, it plays host to some of the best local and national theatre companies throughout the year.
Stars such as Peter O'Toole, Jeremy Irons, Daniel Day-Lewis, Miranda Richardson, Gene Wilder and Pete Postlethwaite made their names at the Old Vic prior to establishing international reputations for their work on stage and screen.
Today, the theatre continues to work with high-profile actors and the company's reputation stretches far beyond its home city. New artistic directors joined the Old Vic in 2003 and have already received excellent national reviews for the opening productions of Les Liaisons Dangereuses and Great Expectations.
Shows take place in the main house and studio and programming includes special pre-show events and talks for those interested in how productions are put together.
