Pickford's House Museum
Visitors can learn about domestic life for a late Georgian professional man at Pickford's House in Derby, a Grade Ilisted building that has been renovated and recreated to its former style.
Built in 1770 by prominent local architect Joseph Pickford as his family home and business headquarters, today visitors can see the various rooms as they would have originally been. Kitchens have been reconstructed in early-19th-century style, and there is a recreated Georgian bedroom and dressing room, a lavish dining room and drawing room, with servants' quarters on the top floor to demonstrate the other side of the coin. In addition, there is a formal garden at the back of the house.
There are also regular events here, including cooking and laundry demonstrations, as well as displays and exhibitions of costumes, textiles, toys, arts and history.
Note: please do not wear sharp-heeled shoes when visiting the house.
