Chatsworth House
Chatsworth House, stately home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, is also known as the "Palace of the Peak". In addition to art treasures, it has a beautiful 105-acre garden and a working farmyard, which is great fun for kids.
Chatsworth House is considered to be Derbyshire's most important historic house and has been called the "National Gallery of the North" by The Times newspaper.
Much of Chatsworth House is open to the public and its rooms are awash with works of art and assorted curios - be sure to ask an attendant about the history of any particular work that catches your eye.
Chatsworth House's garden is similarly impressive with a maze, a rose garden, cottage and kitchen gardens and five miles of walks filled with rare trees, shrubs, fountains and ponds.
An exceptionally beautiful building and one of England's grandest and most grandiose stately homes, Chatsworth House recently became even more impressive with the completion of extensive renovation works throughout the property in 2010. To celebrate the building's reinvigoration, new rooms have been opened to the public and never-before-seen artworks have joined those already on public display.
