We have one beautiful hotel in Bath centre and several just outside. Our hotel in Bath, Abbey Hotel, is a highly popular and sought-after destination, with luxury rooms, service, food, and an unbeatable location.
Bath neighbourhoods
Bath's immense beauty and history resulted in it being inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1987. It has a long and interesting past, but it is perhaps most famous for its Roman occupation. When leaving your Bath hotel, it is impossible not to notice the beautiful architecture, colour of the building materials and style of the streets. This is because the town is hugely Roman influenced, the centrepiece perhaps being the magical Pump Room and Roman Baths on York Street, which takes you to back 700 years every time you step inside. The city is located at the bottom of Avon valley, nestling in a sea of green. Close by, near the southern edge of the Cotswalds, a range of limestone hills are designated as an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Our Bath hotel is a perfect launching pad from which to explore the charming, surrounding south-west countryside. The city itself also has plenty of green and open spaces and the largest park, Royal Victoria Park, is only a short walk from our hotel in Bath. Head north to Bridge Street to admire local boy Gainsborough's daubings at the Victoria Art Gallery, or perhaps go and see Bath Abbey and take in its majesty and awe as it stands over the square below, all ten bells pealing loudly.
Shopping in Bath
A shopping expedition in Bath provides a memorable experience with its fabulous selection of stylish boutiques, smaller indie stores as well as plenty of familiar big-name shops. The centre is where most of the action is to be had and a short walk from our Best Western hotel will take you to Stall Street, Union Street and also the Southgate complex, which is just round the corner. The Armani army loves Milsom Place for its design credentials and Georgian Milsom Street caters for upper-end brands like Reiss and LK Bennett. If reclaimed antiques and flitting through flea markets scratch your fashion itch, stroll around Walcot Street and London Street for offbeat bargains. For keen shoppers, a walk across Pulteney Bridge is essential during your stay. 'English Heritage' designates it as a Grade I listed building and is one of the few bridges in the world lined with boutiques and coffee shops. Its buzz and bustle make it thick with atmosphere and excitement.
Eating and drinking in Bath
The city is renowned for its hospitality and there is plenty of choice when it comes to eating out or going for a drink. Our hotel in Bath is surrounded by many wonderful, award-winning restaurants, as well as plenty of traditional pubs, trendy bars and quaint cafes. For a fine-dining experience, head to 'The Dower House Restaurant,' located in the amazing Royal Crescent, where you will be spoilt with attractive yet simple contemporary British cuisine. The city's drinking scene is also fun and varied. Old-timers should check out 'Abbey Ales Limited,' the first and only brewery in the city for over 50 years, whereas the youngsters should head to Belvedere Wine Vaults on Lansdown Road, a place that specialises in chilli vodkas.
Culture and nightlife in Bath
As well as taking a spine-tingling dip in the historic and atmospheric Roman Baths, the city has plenty to do and see. The city became the country's leading centre of fashion and culture in the 18th Century and the variety of art and theatre that can be taken in, this is still evident today. There are five theatres and several other performance venues including The Forum, a 1,700 art-deco building which originated as a cinema. For something a little more light hearted, head towards George Street where Moles, originally a veggie café, has been turned into a hugely popular music venue and DJ haunt. There's drama, opera, comedy and various types of dance at the Theatre Royal or for something very unusual, book a night with 'Bizarre Bath' and you'll be taken on a comic tour of the city at night.
