Ride at Alton Towers Theme Park

Voted the UK's best theme park by the British travel awards in 2011, Alton Towers, the only place to visit if you're looking for theme park thrills, white knuckle rides, stunning wildlife and a few days of endless fun. Though there is more to offer if you chose to stay in one of our Alton Towers hotels, the nearby canals of Staffordshire are the perfect place to wind down and soak up the stunning scenery if you're looking for a more relaxing break.

Things to do at Alton Towers

With great kids attractions, over ten roller coasters, eleven themed areas and Splashland (Britain's biggest waterpark), it's no wonder that Alton Towers is Britain's favourite theme park. Ride Europe's first inverted roller coaster, Nemesis, or the world's first vertical-drop roller coaster, Oblivion. If you're brave enough strap into Th13teen, the world's first free-fall drop-coaster, then it is certainly worth the effort, although don't attempt this straight after eating!

Alton Towers visitor tips

Before you leave your Alton Towers hotel take a look at the map and make a plan. The park is huge, and there are rides and areas that you are definitely not going to want to miss. The queues are at their shortest at the beginning of the day as well as right at the end, so think about saving the most popular rides until last. If you don't mind sitting next to a stranger, the single-rider queues move a lot faster than those for groups. Alton Towers also has 'parent queue share policy,' which allows one parent to queue whilst the other entertains the children. Once the first parent has been on the ride, the other can jump on and have a go, without having to queue!

Things to do around Alton Towers

Hotels in Alton Towers also give you access to some beautiful spots around this beautiful county. Trek the Staffordshire shires or chug slowly down its winding canals, taking in the scenery and the quaint villages that line the river. Doxey Marshes Nature Reserve is a stunning spot and is considered to be one of the best bird-watching spots in the county. Or, visit the beautiful medieval Lichfield Cathedral. Seeped in history it is Staffordshire's only cathedral and is the only English cathedral with three spires, so make sure you plan this trip when booking your Alton Towers hotel.

The Potteries shopping centre in nearby Stoke-On-Trent is the perfect place to catch up on some retail therapy, housing all the biggest high street stores under one roof! If you fancy some local country fare, then visit the Ramblers Retreat. Located less than ten minutes from Alton Towers resort, this award-winning pub handcrafts its menu according to season and sources it ingredients from nearby farms. On the second Saturday of every month, Stafford Market Square is transformed into a bustling farmers' market. Fruit, vegetables, meat, bread and cheeses are all on offer, with all the produce sourced from local suppliers. Book an Alton Towers hotel with Best Wetsern for a fantastic UK short break. You really will have the perfect family getaway!
