East Midlands - Romance
The North Terrace of Belvoir Castle straddles the counties of Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire, and offers stunning views over some of the most beautiful countryside of each. On a clear day you can see Lincoln Cathedral, some 22 miles away. In the city itself, you should soak up the romantic atmosphere in the uphill area of Lincoln under the floodlit castle and cathedral.
East Midlands - Food & Drink
Try fresh Bakewell pudding from the Peak District village of Bakewell (don't call it a 'tart' or you'll offend the locals). In Lincolnshire, delicious sausages, Red Cattle beef and Bronze turkeys are rightly famed, along with pork pies made around Melton Mowbray. Look out for speciality breads such as Lincolnshire Plum bread. As for cheeses, Lincolnshire Poacher is made in the Wolds (it won 'Supreme Champion' at the British Cheese awards) and don't forget to try the local Dennetts ice cream and Daisy Maid ice cream, made near Scarborough. Stilton Cheese can only be produced in the three counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire but the original is from Long Clawson. Leicester'sGolden Mile (Belgrave Road) stakes a good claim for serving the country's best curry.
