North East England - Food & Drink
Head to Robson's Smokery in Craster on the Northumberland Heritage Coast to try the delicious kippers. Fresh fish and chips all over the region are first rate and the tourist office suggests you don't leave Beadnell, Almouth or Druidge Bay without trying a crab sandwich. Make-Me-Rich Farm near Berwick makes award-winning Northumberland cheeses such as Chevington and Redesdale and delicious local ice cream can be found at Doddington Dairy or Mark Toney. Look out too for Lindisfarne oysters, smoked pheasant and yummy Piperfield sausages on fine restaurant menus.
North East England - Romance
When the tide recedes, you can cross the causeway to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne to see where Christianity first took root in England. See nesting puffins in the Farne Islands and the romantic ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle on Northumbria's Heritage Coast. To the south you can take in the thundering Cauldron Snout and High Force waterfalls.
