East Midlands - Culture & Nightlife

Culture & Nightlife

Put your best togs on for a night out in Nottingham's trendy Lace Market, while for hen-party mayhem head for the Old Market Square. Leicester'sHigh Street offers entertainment for everyone andLincoln's new university has boosted the city's nightlife, centred on the harbour and the High Street.

East Midlands - Food & Drink

Food & Drink

Try fresh Bakewell pudding from the Peak District village of Bakewell (don't call it a 'tart' or you'll offend the locals). In Lincolnshire, delicious sausages, Red Cattle beef and Bronze turkeys are rightly famed, along with pork pies made around Melton Mowbray. Look out for speciality breads such as Lincolnshire Plum bread. As for cheeses, Lincolnshire Poacher is made in the Wolds (it won 'Supreme Champion' at the British Cheese awards) and don't forget to try the local Dennetts ice cream and Daisy Maid ice cream, made near Scarborough. Stilton Cheese can only be produced in the three counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire but the original is from Long Clawson. Leicester'sGolden Mile (Belgrave Road) stakes a good claim for serving the country's best curry.
