Seven months in to 2011 and, at the risk of sounding like my nan, where has the time gone?! This year really is just flying by. Week in, week out. It seems if you blink you’ll miss August.
But all work and no play makes Kirsty a dull girl so I decided to book a short weekend break away with the girls to the BEST WESTERN Moore Place Hotel to make more time for friends, more time for gossip and, most importantly, more time for cocktails.
Arriving into the village of Aspley Guise, you certainly wouldn’t think we were just a mile and a half away from the M1. Driving through country roads, surrounded by tall trees, passing quaint, thatched roofed cottages, we found the Georgian Manor House no trouble at all. Well, Paul the sat nav should get some credit for it too.
The hotel was a peaceful retreat, just what the doctor ordered. Walking into reception we passed a small pond, complete with a waterfall and four little ducklings!
Room 33, a classic twin room, was our home for the night and home really is the right word for it. The room was thoughtfully decorated, blending the contemporary with the traditional, and it was clean, spacious and very comfortable. We unpacked the curling wand, turned on the large plasma TV and logged on to the free hotel wifi – this is what Saturday nights are made for!
Make up applied, perfume sprayed and heels on, Ellen on reception booked our taxi and advised us of the best places to go in the Hub in Milton Keynes where we ate, drank and got (very) merry. She made sure we had the number for the best, (aka cheapest) taxi firm so we would a) get home safely and b) have more money for drinks, and she really went out of her way to make sure we were headed for a great night out.
The mix of the blackout curtains, the comfiest bed EVER, the quiet and maybe the help of a tipple or two that night meant we slept like babies. The hot, powerful shower followed by a cooked breakfast was exactly what we needed to wake us up the next day and send us on our way back up North.
You’ll be amazed what one night out of the rat race can do for you. Whether it’s a last minute hotel deal or a planned night away, a short break could be just what you need now we’re mid way through the year. The BEST WESTERN Moore Place Hotel offers you comfort, quiet and great hospitality yet isn’t too remote from partying, shopping and the main road links – a perfect place for your next trip away!
So what are you waiting for? Before you know it our good old friend St Nick will be on his way….
