Because of my job I always try to plan my trips around Best Western hotels, so when booking my last holiday in the sun this was of course factored into where I booked, as well as the maximum sun strength and a swim up bar (unfortunately the swim up bar didn’t happen!).
Being rather fussy when it comes to choosing a holiday destination (this is not good when you are trying to book last minute over a bank holiday weekend) we eventually sorted out the hotel, with the next step in the process choosing where to fly from.
At this point I think the very helpful Travel Agent may have wanted to scream thinking she was going to have a problem accommodating this very fussy customer. But no, this was the easy part as we got brilliant flight times departing and arriving at East Midlands Airport, which is right by the Best Western Premier Yew Lodge Hotel.
The day before we were set to jet off for some sun, relaxation and too much food we headed down to stay overnight in Kegworth where we spent the afternoon trying out the hotel’s gym facilities – actually, this is a lie as I was well on my way to getting in the holiday spirit – although they did look great when I walked past on the way to the pool!
So after my fictional work out I hit the pool to do a few leisurely lengths, then started to de-stress by trying out the spa pool, steam room and sauna with ice feature (although I think it was a little too late to be working on the perfect beach bod).
After a fantastic time making the most of the leisure facilities we headed for a scrummy meal in the restaurant and hit the hay for our very early 4am wake up call.
After doing all the final checks – passport, hair straighteners, sunglasses etc we managed to undo all the magic of the sauna in under 60 seconds by getting slightly stressed out. Luckily when we lugged our worldly belongings down to reception the mini bus was waiting to whisk us off to the airport so that we could begin our travels – fantastic service!
If you are ever flying out of East Midlands Airport I highly recommend staying over the night before and using the park and fly service – not only do you get to the airport with plenty of time to spare, you can also be assured that you car is being well looked after in your absence!
