For all you sports nuts craving your next fix, don’t worry the wait is over. The Commonwealth Games 2014 are here, and it’s great to have another major sporting event here in Great Britain. Can you remember back to the spectacular summer of 2012, the buzz and giddy excitement London 2012 created around GB? Expect more of the same as the Commonwealth Games take over the front and back pages for the next two weeks.
The world’s eyes will focus on Glasgow as they play host to 6,500 athletes, 71 nations and 17 sports over 11 days of world class competition. From 100m to lawn bowls from wrestling to cycling in the ‘Sir Chris Hoy’ Velodrome the Commonwealth Games has something for everyone to enjoy.
And for all you avid sports fans hoping for a sprinkling of star quality this summer there will be numerous sporting greats on show. From the world famous athlete Usain Bolt, to current 800m world record holder David Rudisha.
And to what of the home nations’ hopes? Well, the last time the games were held in Great Britain (Manchester 2002) it rained medals for GB, with England winning 164 medals, Scotland 30, Wales 29 and Northern Ireland 5. So yes, we can dream of a repeat of ‘Super Saturday’ as we watch our very own Olympic Gold Medallists Mo Farah, Greg Rutherford and Sir Bradley Wiggins compete – Glasgow promises to put on a party we all want to be invited to.
So if you’re thinking of having a last minute get away to the best sporting party this summer, don’t worry you’ve not left it to late. We still have hotel availability in Glasgow and surrounding areas over the next 11 days. So don’t miss out on the trip of a lifetime and throw yourself into this brilliant Scottish summer of sport.
