Cheese, yummy! My automatic response to any mention of cheese is similar to that of Wallace (of Wallace and Gromit fame.) But it wasn’t always this way…
For Saturday night takeaways I always ordered a pizza base with no toppings because of my dislike of cheese. I can vividly remember asking my Dad to scrape the cheese from a cheese burger because I didn’t like the taste of it. On a separate note, surely my Dad would have been better to just buy me a burger?
Nevertheless my passive reaction to cheese carried on into my teens, although I had by now upgraded to pizza’s, cheese burgers and cheese on toast – very sophisticated I know!
Then one day this all changed. We were celebrating my Auntie’s birthday in the local country pub and Mum decided on a cheese board for dessert. Being a growing lad at the time any food was, generally, welcome. I sampled a tiny bit of brie on a nondescript cracker…WOW! Although one of the simpler cheeses, I absolutely loved it. The softness of the cheese, the creamy taste, it was all fantastic. So I sampled a little bit more.
Although I don’t consider myself a connoisseur I do bloody love a nice cheese. But if you consider yourself more of a connoisseur than me the International Cheese Awards is happening at the end of this month in Nantwich. A record breaking 4,443 cheeses from 26 countries will be on show at the awards, with celebrity chefs on hand for cheese related cooking demonstrations.
Why not make the most of your visit to the International Cheese Awards, by staying at BEST WESTERN PLUS Stoke on Trent Moat House. This hotel is the perfect place to base yourself for the awards.
