Extraordinary, but true. There are at least eight sets of mothers and daughters or sons working at BEST WESTERN Manor Hotel in Gravesend, Kent – and there has even been nine! But that is just one branch of this amazing family tree.
Managing director Nick Wilde (one of the friendliest people you could ever wish to meet), is a cousin of the owner. Nick’s wife Theresa, sister Sally, brother-in-law Fred, nephew Jay and daughter-in-law Danielle are all on the payroll.
“There are at least eight mothers and daughter or sons working here at the moment,” says Nick. “Sets of sisters, brothers and sisters too – we really are one big, happy family hotel.”
Sister Sally says: “It’s a good job we all get on. Amazingly maybe, but we do.”
Nick has run the hotel for 22 years and believes “keeping it in the family” has helped create the warm and friendly atmosphere that guests experience when they check in.
“We have guests who have been staying for more than 10 years and they appreciate seeing so many staff who have looked after them during that time.
“It really is a home from home. We have a saying here: ‘Stay with our family while away from yours.’”
His philosophy has clearly paid off. Awards from the English Tourist Board and Trip Advisor proudly hang in reception.
