Highlights include Highland Games in Holyrood Park and the Clan Pageant, a parade of the clans in full dress along the Royal Mile, complete with pipers, bands and highland dancers. July

Edinburgh International Film Festival

Edinburgh International Film Festival has been running since 1947. Originally taking place alongside the Edinburgh International Festival, it now has its own slot in June. You can view international premieres or opt for a retrospective of your favourite director. June

Edinburgh Military Tattoo

Immerse yourself in the spectacle of Edinburgh Military Tattoo, when marching bands, pipers, military re-enactments, kilts and costumes entertain the crowds. Thousands gather to to take in the parades, music and other events set against the backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. August

Edinburgh International Festival

Enjoy a month-long programme of performing arts during the Edinburgh International Festival each August. A highlight of Britain's cultural calendar, you can choose from the finest classical music, opera, theatre and dance shows while making the most of the wide range of other associated festivals (the Military Tattoo, Fringe, Film, Jazz and Book).
