Celebrating the winter solstice's longest night of the year, Brighton's annual Burning The Clocks includes a lantern parade followed by a fireworks display. Many of the paper lanterns are burnt too, on the beach next to Madeira Drive.
Anyone can join in with either the lantern-making workshops held from late October or applying for the special, limited-edition pyramid clock lantern kits, which double as a pass for the parade and the VIP viewing area for the fireworks (please note: free-form, home-made lanterns can't be accepted as each lantern has to confirm to safety specifications).
Each year 20,000 come to watch the parade of 1000 carrying their lanterns.
