Burghley House
Burghley House in Stamford, Lincolnshire, was built by William Cecil, treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I, in the 16th century. The largest remaining house from the Elizabethan age, visitors can tour dozens of rooms containing a feast of paintings, fine porcelain and furniture. Outdside, the Gardens of Surprise include the Contemporary Sculpture Garden and the new Historical Garden of Surprises, opened in 2007 with mirrors, mazes and a grotto.
