Central Scotland - Romance
In historic St Andrews, climb the spiral staircase to the top of 108-foot (33-metre) St Regulus' Tower for magnificent views of the town and its famous ruined cathedral and castle. Watch the sun set over Loch Tummel at the Queen's View. Peer across the Firth of Clyde towards Helensburgh from Tower Hill behind Gourock.
Central Scotland - Shopping
Edinburgh's famous Princes Street is lined with high-street shops down just one side, allowing unrestricted views over Princes Street Gardens and the castle on the other. For a mall with a difference, shop in mid-price stores at Loch Lomond Shores and, when you've had enough, slope off to the aquarium for a change of pace.
The number-one designer destination in Edinburgh is Harvey Nichols, but don't neglect Jenners, the department store favoured by generations of Edinburgh ladies. Scour ultra-hip Merchant's City in Glasgow for upmarket boutiques within a beautifully restored, listed warehouse.
