Welsh Secretary Peter Hain has become involved in discussions about travel arrangements for a Rugby World Cup game at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.

The tournament’s second quarter-final game is scheduled to start at 8pm on Saturday 6 October. However, due to rail engineering works that weekend, the last train returning from Cardiff to London will leave at 8.30pm.

According to Welsh news website icWales, Peter Hain has said he will be writing to train provider First Great Western on the matter.

Former rugby player Victor Ubogu, who now runs sports events company VU, was first to highlight the potential problem. He said that there would be “thousands of fans expecting to get to and from the game by train.”

“Many will not realise until it is too late to make other arrangements that getting back to London is not possible,” he added.
