A train company has taken the unusual step of hiring a poet to perform for its passengers.
First Great Western has commissioned Sally Crabtree, “the pink wigged pocket Venus from Cornwall”, to perform from 14-17 August.
Performing alongside her copper ‘poetree’, Ms Crabtree will be giving two performances at each of eight stations served by First Great Western, including Oxford, Bath, Bristol and Exeter.
She has previously worked in libraries and schools across the UK, and performed at this year’s Venice Biennale.
Elaine Wilde, First Great Western’s community affairs and events manager, said: “This is an interesting idea that makes poetry more accessible across a large geographic area. It’s an exciting project which we think is fun and inspiring.
“Sally is an inspirational performer, and we are pleased to be able to offer her a platform to a wider audience.”
