Some of the world's most expensive jewels and gems are to go on display at the Natural History Museum in London later this month.

The 'Devonshire' Emerald and the 47.69 carat 'Star of South Africa' are just two examples of the treasures that will be on display in 'The Vault', a new permanent exhibition, from 28 November.

Some of the artefacts in the show are truly out of this world, such as the Nakhla, a Martian meteorite that fell to earth in 1911.

The majority of the items on display in The Vault are considered priceless and maximum security is being put in place. A similar exhibition was closed two years ago amid fears of an armed robbery.

The Vault will be free to enter and replaces the old Meteorites display.
