Cate Blanchett film to promote UK tourism

Tourist chiefs eager to tempt film-loving holidaymakers to Britain have launched a major campaign to tie in with the release of new film, The Golden Age.

Starring Australian actress Cate Blanchett as Elizabeth I, the film features several historical locations already popular with visitors, such as Brean Down in Somerset, Cambridge University and Westminster, Winchester and Wells cathedrals.

VisitBritain, the official website of the British Tourist Authority, plans to cash in on the film’s popularity by running a global campaign promoting special tours of all the film’s major locations.

The dedicated website features a downloadable map of locations, six different touring itineraries, a picture gallery and information on contemporary art, culture and tastes.

The travel industry has long been aware of the huge boost appearing in film and television can give to tourist attractions and even has its own term for it – 'set-jetting'.
