This year’s Burning the Clocks parade will take place in Brighton on Friday 21 December.

The parade is held to mark the winter solstice, and aims to be an "antidote to the excesses of the commercial Christmas".

As part of the parade, people gather together to make paper and willow lanterns which they carry through the city, The lanterns are then set alight on the beach, producing an aerial fire show which will be accompanied by a more conventional fireworks display.

The event's organisers hold workshops for constructing the lanterns, which are now fully booked. However, lantern-making kits are available from selected Brighton suppliers for those who wish to bring their own.

The parade will leave from North Street in central Brighton at 6.30pm, and is due to arrive at Madeira Drive near the seafront at 7.15pm in time for the fire show.
