Sheffield Hotels

A stay in a Sheffield hotel puts you in Yorkshire’s second city, famous for its steel production, cutlery manufacture and the fact that everybody – even the policemen – will call you “love”.
Sheffield neighbourhoods
From your Sheffield hotel you can explore the massive new development that is Sheffield’s answer to the Eden Project, the Millennium Gallery and Winter Gardens. North of the town you’ll come across the pedestrianised Fargate area and the city’s cathedral. South of the town hall is where the trendy Devonshire Quarter can be found. The stroll-conducive 19-acre Botanic Gardens are a couple of miles south-west of the centre.
Shopping in Sheffield
Based at a former steelworks, Meadowhall Shopping Centre sucks in about 25 million visitors a year and has everything from small boutiques to high-street staples. Fargate in the city centre has a regular market and Yorkshire’s only John Lewis is in Barker’s Pool. Next door’s Orchard Square is a craft workshop oasis while the trendy Devonshire Quarter is where the hip professionals in trendy boutiques rub shoulders with scruffy skateboarders heading for the ramps of the Green. For a cosmopolitan studenty feel, Ecclesall Road, or Eccy Road as it’s known, is a laid-back bohemian shopping alternative.
Eating and drinking in Sheffield
The leafy outdoor cafés of Ecclesall Road provide a relaxing shopper’s rest stop. WasabiSabi on London Road is the UK’s first dumpling and fondue restaurant. But if really want to pig out, get your trotters down to the Milestone gastropub. It has nose-to-tail pork weeks where it serves up everything from pig’s head to deep-fried pig’s tail cut from its own rare breeds. Showroom is a funky restaurant and cocktail bar popular with film and arty types. For musos and celeb watchers, the Bowery pub on Devonshire Street is run by ex-Arctic Monkeys local boy Andy Nicholson.
Culture and nightlife in Sheffield
At the Crucible Theatre you’ll see everything from Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing to a Ronnie O’Sullivan clearance during the World Snooker Championships. The Lyceum Theatre hosts opera, ballet, dance and West End musicals. The Don Valley Stadium and Sheffield Arena stage concerts by stars such as Elton John and Bob Dylan. Big names in comedy play City Hall.
