Bluebells of Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire

Book a Nottingham hotel and explore this Saxon city that’s famous for lace-making, Robin Hood and the managerial reign of feisty Brian Clough at Nottingham Forest.

Historic Nottingham

At Nottingham Castle, where King Charles I began the English Civil War, visitors learn about Robin Hood. Then you can explore the underground passages on a City of Caves tour and meet Anglo-Saxon troglodytes.

Art and museums in Nottingham

On an interactive tour of the old courthouse and gaol at the Galleries of Justice Museum, you’ll meet creepy costumed characters and learn about the city’s famous murderers and highwaymen. For a gentler experience, the Lace Centre, set in a 14th-century timber-framed building, has craft demos.

Quirky things to do in Nottingham

You can watch experiments as well award-winning organic flour being ground at Green’s Windmill and Science Centre, the former home of 19th-century maths genius George Green. The Major Oak where Robin Hood hid whilst fleeing the Sheriff of Nottingham is a drive away at the Sherwood Forest Country Park.

Events in Nottingham

During October’s Robin Hood Pageant the grounds of Nottingham Castle become a 12th-century village of travelling minstrels and costumed characters challenging each other to archery competitions. The Goose Fair on Forest Recreation Ground has a 500-year history. In those days, a freaky five-footed sheep might have stolen the show. Nowadays it’s the white-knuckle roller coasters.
