Legoland Hotels
Book a hotel near Legoland and the kids will pinball around 50 rides and attractions, getting soaked at the Waterworks, enrolling in boat school and whizzing past crocs and snakes on the Orient Express. Close to the royal town of Windsor, it’s also just a short M4 hop to the medieval streets of Wokingham and the pretty waterside town of Weybridge.
Things to do at Legoland
Let the kids loose in Miniland where London’s Gherkin and Canary Wharf are re-created. Tiddlers get busy in the Duplo Play Town and older ones learn to drive at the Traffic Area, get a head for heights at Balloon School and pan for gold at Goldwash.
Legoland visitor tips
There is so much to do at Legoland that you’ll want to get there at opening time. You’ll also bag the best parking spaces, nearest to the gates. Work backwards through the park and work up the hill – you’ll get to the most popular rides before the crowds form an hour after opening time. Remember closing time is when the rides stop, not when you have to leave the park, so don’t worry about being far from the gates. You can queue for a ride virtually with the Q-Bot for a fee, which allows you to roam the park while you await your time slot.
Things to do around Legoland
Book a hotel near Legoland and you can fit in a tour of Liz’s country home, Windsor Castle. Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House, with real electric lights, always delights children. Mums are rather impressed by the dolls France and Marianne, belonging to the Queen and her sister Margaret, whose clothes were made by Hermès, Vuitton and Lanvin. They put Barbie to shame. Take a peek around Eton College while you’re in town. Tours run from spring to autumn and include a look around the Museum of Eton Life, giving you an insight into how many of the country’s leaders were educated.
Eat, drink and shop near Windsor
At Windsor Royal Shopping, set against the town’s impressive Victorian railway station, you’ll find a seven-day arts and crafts market plus 40 or so upmarket names like Oliver Bonas, Jo Malone and Phase Eight. Daniel on Peascod Street is a huge family-run department store that is by royal appointment and has an excellent toy department. Ladies who lunch love its patisserie La Croisette after too much chip’n’pin finger exertion. A stay in a Windsor hotel means excellent afternoon teas. Try the Drury House Restaurant opposite the castle for scandalously good scones.
