Dundee Hotels

Stop over in a Dundee hotel to explore this compact little Tayside city where jam was dreamt up, journalism drove the city and jute made it very rich indeed.
Dundee neighbourhoods
City Square marks the centre of Dundee – if in doubt look for the bronze statue of Desperate Dan which celebrates the publication here of The Dandy since 1937. From here you can walk up the High Street, as Dundonians have done since the 13th century. The city’s West End has become the cultural centre of the city with Dundee Contemporary Arts on Nethergate its focus. Over at the Tay to the south you can follow Captain Scott’s trip to Antarctica on the RRS Discovery at Discovery Point.
Shopping in Dundee
You’ll get the full Highland outfit at Sutherlands The Tartan Shop in Nethergate, and if you’ve a mind to join the huntin’, shootin’ and fishin’ gang, there’s no finer retail outlet than John R Gow in Union Street. The Eduardo Alessandro Studios at Broughty Ferry sell Scottish paintings, jewellery and ceramics and Keiller’s on Castle Street sells specialist chinaware for Lladro and Swarovski lovers.
Eating and drinking in Dundee
You won’t be the first visitor who leaves their Dundee hotel converted to the joys of the macaroni cheese pie. The city also does great fish and chips – but don’t be surprised if they offer you gravy on the fish or grated cheese. Broughty Ferry, Perth Road and the area around the university are packed with pubs so that snifter of whisky is never very far away. Try Drouthy Neebors on Perth Road for a good pint and jazz nights in the basement.
Culture and nightlife in Dundee
Grandiose Caird Hall overlooks City Square and hosts the full gamut of entertainment from ballet to panto. The black polo neck crowd hangs out at the Dundee Contemporary Arts, which puts on art-house films, talks and literary events on Nethergate. The healthy local theatre scene blooms at the Dundee Repertory Theatre on Tay Square, and Fat Sam’s on South Ward Road always has a gig or DJ night on. Past acts include the Undertones and the Editors.
