Book a Blackpool hotel and you’re in for a traditional British seaside experience, from donkey rides and fortune-tellers to the world-class circus at the base of Blackpool Tower.
Blackpool neighbourhoods
Blackpool lays it all out for you on the seafront, with little reason to stray unless you’ve a shopping head on. Some 125 rides including the terrifying Pepsi Max Big One roller coaster await you at the Pleasure Beach on the South Promenade. Next door is the UK’s largest indoor waterpark, the Sandcastle, whose constant 29C temperature can be a haven on bracing days. At the other end of the Golden Mile is Blackpool Tower, providing day and night glitzy entertainment from juggling trapeze acts to ballroom displays.
Shopping in Blackpool
For high street regulars, the Hounds Hill Shopping Centre next to the Tower hits the mark. If you’ve won big at one of the city’s bingo halls, WAGs’ favourite Juicy Couture or quirky Vivienne Westwood designs can be found at Blueberries on Topping Street east of the centre. For continental markets visit spruced-up St John’s Square.
Eating and drinking in Blackpool
There can be no finer Blackpool moment than strolling beneath the dazzling, winking illuminations, hot, vinegary fish and chips warming your palms as you go. But if you really must have a knife and fork, the city’s delightfully named and multi-award-winning Kwizeen Restaurant on King Street specialises in a Lancashire hotpot to rival Betty’s and local speciality pilling lamb. Blackpool’s town centre pubs are geared towards stag parties and late-night drinking. For a quieter pint head to the North Shore.
Culture and nightlife in Blackpool
Blackpool is undisputedly the hen and stag centre of the north. Its clubs and DJ bars are legendary, including superclub Syndicate on Church Street. Gentler souls get fabulous nighttime views across the promenade and illuminations from inside a gondola on the Ferris wheel on the Central Pier. When the lights go on during Switch On weekend, some of the country’s top pop acts perform for free. The country’s largest theatre with 3,000 capacity, the Opera House in the Winter Gardens, hosts huge names like Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey as well as West End musicals, comedy royalty and pop stars.
