Bullring Shopping Centre, Birmingham

Step out of your Birmingham hotel to see a splendid renaissance in the civic city squares and historic Jacobean and Georgian residences.

Historic Birmingham

The Victorians revived a few architectural styles in Birmingham city centre, from the Town Hall with its rows of Corinthian columns to Council House with its filigree Renaissance friezes and balconies. Fifty-acre Aston Hall is a classic Jacobean mansion, which luckily escaped some cannonball damage during a political spat in 1643.

Art and museums in Birmingham

Birmingham’s affectionately known clock, Big Brum, marks the entrance to freebie Birmingham Art Gallery and Museum’s Pre-Raphaelite collection. The suburbs are quite proud of their own museums, like Sarehole Mill, where JRR Tolkien was inspired when he was just a hobbit.

Quirky things to do in Birmingham

Handsworth suburb is home to classy Georgian Soho House, where 18th-century brain boxes in the Lunar Society met to chat about the universe. Aptly placed next to Bournville Park, Cadbury World is a Willy Wonka experience with Beanmobile tours.

Events in Birmingham

Book your Birmingham hotel in time for the Birmingham International Jazz Festival in July, when the city swings with jamming sessions. In March the NEC goes barking during the Crufts dog show, while the LG Arena gets equestrian with the Horse of the Year Show in October.
