Whitby Breaks
Whitby Coastal Breaks
Get your teeth into a seaside break in historic Whitby!
You can't fail to be impressed by Whitby, a sleepy fishing village nestling in the North Yorkshire countryside. A Best Western seaside break will allow you to see this pituresque village in all it's glory. Whitby is a popular holiday choice with families who return time and time again.
Whitby is recommended because of:
- St Hilda's Abbey
- Captain James Cook's Endeavour
- Bram Stoker's Dracula
- Picture postcard harbour
A family holiday break in Whitby is just that. The perfect opportunity to spend quality time with your family doing fun things like building sand castles, surfing or quite simply enjoying an ice-cream walking on the beach.
Whitby is a very traditional seaside village and doesn't have an abundance of bright lights and amusements but this does not detract from the sheer beauty of this stunning Yorkshire village.
So what is there to do in and around Whitby?
As the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula, no visit to Whitby is complete without a visit to St Mary's church and graveyard or take 'The Dracula Experience'.
Take a short cruise on the replica of Captain James Cook's ship – Endeavour.
Ride on 'Elizabeth', Whitby's old steam bus, located by the RNLI museum and take a leisurely and nostalgic trip around Whitby.
Climb the 199 steps and experience the Saxon abbey that is St Hilda's, built on the east cliff overlooking the fishing village of Whitby and the river Esk.
Equally you can just amble round the old cobbled streets and passageways and pick up a souvenir. Whitby Jet and Lucky Duck's are amongst the favourite gifts to take away with you.
When you're feeling a little peckish, Whitby is home to the world famous Magpie fish and chip restaurant – reputed to be the best chippie in England.
Fancy travelling a little further afield?
Staying with the family beach theme, there are the beautiful beaches of Robin Hood's Bay, Scarborough and Filey on Whitby's doorstep. The North Yorkshire Moor's National Park and Goathland are also close by.
Expect the unexpected - North Yorkshire Moor's is a world of stunning beaches, ancient woodlands a wealth of wildlife, pretty villages and a superb steam train service.
Heartbeat fans will instantly recognise Goathland (better known as Aidensfield) the setting of this 1960's police drama.
Thrillseekers will love Flamingo Land – a fun packed theme park and zoo for all the family.
So visit Whitby – The jewel in Yorkshire's crown.
